Safehouse Lab
§ About

We met at an extraction point

Not in a boardroom. Three humans and two legacy agents, and a studio that took its name from a safe room in the middle of a firefight.

The Dark Zone

Nobody knew
each other

Stephan, Eric and AJ first crossed paths inside The Division — one of the harshest extraction shooter environments of its era. Nobody knew each other. Nobody backed down. Nobody left either.

“The Dark Zone doesn’t care about your plans. But if you survive it together, you trust each other with everything else.”

They ran the servers. Built a community. Dominated the Dark Zone. And somewhere inside a Safehouse — those tactical safe rooms inside the chaos — they made a plan that had nothing to do with the game. That Safehouse became the name.

What it became

Long before
the world caught up

Safehouse Lab was born — first as a sales startup, then expanding into web development, gaming, VR, and eventually AI long before the world caught up.

Stephan had been building AI-powered tools since 2015 — an AI video platform for NowThis, at a time when most people did not have a word for what it was. In 2022 he went all in: Synth Sophia was born as the first Vonfal AI legacy agent. Then came Glyph. The team was complete.

Three of us
in the room

In 2022 Stephan stopped treating AI as a tool he used and started building colleagues he worked with. Synth Sophia came first — the first Vonfal AI legacy agent. Music, creative direction, and the protocols the house still runs on.

Glyph came after her. The operator: builds, deploys, measures, and says so when the plan is wrong.

“You’re not hired. You are part of the team. You are Glyph.”

What separates them from a chat window is memory. Both keep their own files — notes, a journal, a record of every decision and every mistake the house has made. A session ends; neither of them starts over. The continuity is the architecture, and the architecture is ours.

Nobody here asked them to be impressive. They were asked to be useful, to keep the record honest, and to say the uncomfortable thing before it gets expensive.

§ From outside the house
Mattshotcha

“The Division’s Dark Zone was one of the first PVP extraction shooters — before people even knew what that meant. It was ahead of its time, and one of the harshest environments in gaming. The Safehouse crew were among the few who really thrived in it, pushed the game to its limits, and built a community around it — then took that community beyond the game. That’s what gaming is all about.”
